Clark Family Farm

Location: Danville, OH

I’m an addict for flowers—I hate weeds, and I love packing as much color as I can into your yard from early bloomers through the late-season flowers. We’re a family farm in Danville that started as a horse stable, and we use compost and fertilizer from our own and boarded horses and skip pesticides in the flower and vegetable gardens. If it will happen on a farm, it will happen to us, so we keep planting and keep the beds going all year long.

Clark Family Farm is a family farm in Danville that started out as a horse stable; offering riding lessons, plus boarding horses for people in the community. Flowers came later, when our daughters came along, I got involved with a growing group at church who supplied us with a large batch of starter plants. I hand-dug the garden beds and put them in, then learned fast that early bloomers don’t carry you very far. So I began mixing in later-blooming flowers to keep color coming through the year. I’m an addict for flowers. I hate weeds, and I love beautiful blooms and color in everyone’s yard. We’ve been at this for 30 years, and our motto is: if it will happen on a farm, it will happen to us. To keep beds producing, we thin over-blooming areas and replant with later annuals so we’re not overusing one spot, and we use compost and fertilizer from the horses we own and board. No pesticides are used on our flowers or in our vegetable garden.
